The Early Days: Inception
The story of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) in the United Kingdom reflects deep faith, resilience, and divine intervention. It all began in 1974 when Mother Mary Akpan (General Mother) returned to the UK from Calabar, Nigeria, following the Holy Father's miraculous healing of her daughter. Fueled by profound gratitude and commitment, she dedicated herself to advancing the Father’s works in Britain.
Mother Akpan, alongside fellow members—Pastor E.E. Udoumoren, Apostle Ephraim Edet, and Pastor B.P. Umoren—conducted the initial worship sessions at Pastor Udoumoren’s home. As their congregation expanded, they transitioned to a rented venue at 234 Kennington Park Road, London. Additionally, Prophet Ephraim Edet hosted services at his residence at 14 Boundary Lane, which later became officially recognized as Brotherhood of the Cross and Star Camberwell Bethel.
The journey of growth continued in 1978 when Brother Ekanem (former Bishop) and Brother Cole acquired a church in Mill Hill, North London. This new headquarters, located at The Ridgeway, Mill Hill, Greater London, NW7 1QU, was inaugurated on July 29, 1978. The very next day, July 30, BCS celebrated its inaugural full Sunday service, signifying a pivotal moment in its UK journey.
