Visa

List of documents required for UK visa application
Nationals of certain countries require a United Kingdom Visa to visit the UK, and some don’t (refer to the UK Border Agency website for a list of affected countries). A number of requirements must be met to get a UK visitor or tourist Visa, which is only granted for a limited period, depending on your travel plans.
To find out whether you need a visa and how to apply to visit the UK, visit the UK Border Agency website at www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/ or check with your local British Embassy or other diplomatic representative before you travel. The rules change regularly, so you should ensure you have the most up-to-date information for your trip.
Once you've sorted out your UK visa, check the UK customs allowances page (www.visitlondon.com/traveller-information/travel-to-london/customs-and-visas/uk-customs-allowances) to see what you can and can't bring into the country.
If you need help with your Visa applications, please email our foreign affairs committee at jubileefa@bcs-uk.org. For participants outside Europe and the US, please click here to complete the Potential Attendee Questionnaire for the BCS UK 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Travel Information

London has one of the largest urban transport networks in the world, with integrated bus, river and road systems spanning the city's 32 boroughs. During your visit for the BCS@50 events, you will likely use various transport systems, especially the following:
Buses
London's iconic double-decker buses are a quick, convenient and cheap way to travel around the city, with plenty of sightseeing opportunities along the way. Once in the UK, you can download the London BUS APP and map out your route.
London buses are all cashless, so you need an Oyster card, Travelcard or contactless payment card to ride. Bus fare is £1.75, and a day of bus-only travel will cost a maximum of £5.25. You can make unlimited free transfers to other buses and trams within one hour of touching in for your first journey. Night buses operate after the Tube network closes and before daytime bus services begin.
London Underground (Tube)
The London Underground rail network, or "the Tube" is a great way to
travel to and from central London and will be an integral part of most
people's stay in the UK capital. You can get travel straight to any
destination from Heathrow Airport using the Underground trains.
Greater London is served by 11 Tube lines, along with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), the London Overground, the Elizabeth line and National Rail services.
London Underground trains generally run between 5 a.m. and midnight Monday through Saturday. Operating hours are slightly reduced on Sunday. Night Tube trains run on some lines throughout the night on Fridays and Saturdays.

London cycle hire scheme
Santander Cycles, London's public bicycle hire scheme, is a great way to travel around the city. The first half-hour costs £1.65, and day passes are available from £3, so grab a bike and get riding. Click here for more information
Taxi
From iconic London black cabs to local minicabs and Uber, there are well-managed Taxi Systems in London.
